WELCOME TO WASHINGTON SCHOOL

Washington School is a Kindergarten through 8th grade school nestled near the South Yuba River in the rugged and beautiful foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The culturally rich, historic town of Washington was founded in 1849 during the height of the Gold Rush Days. Many historic buildings are still being used, including the school which was built in 1905. With small class sizes and multiple grades, students receive individual attention through personal instruction, cross age tutoring, and small group work. Washington School is reminiscent of one-room schoolhouses of the past. Parents and community members are active and supportive of their town’s little school. Traditions include the annual Halloween Parade, Sharing Stew, Senior Teas, a Winter Program, and field trips.

ELECTIVES

Art and music, as well as, project based curricula are incorporated into the school year. With it’s rich history and easy access to the Yuba, many “out of classroom” opportunities are available.

LIBRARY

Washington School houses a school library that is supplemented with a regular rotation of books from the larger Grizzly Hill School collection.

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL

Washington School has an active site council comprised of community members, parents, and staff. The primary role of the council is to set goals and budget for the Single Plan for Student Achievement. At each site, the council is also active in surveying parents and providing guidance for school and district decisions. Site councils meet an average of one day per month.
